The public city bus network makes it easy to travel within the city. There are more than 40 bus lines, which run according to regular schedules throughout the day. Holders of the Ljubljana Card are entitled to free of charge use of the city bus network.

To use Ljubljana city buses or LPP as locals call it you will need URBANA CARD. Urbana enables quick and convenient cash-free travel on LPP city buses. You can also use it to ride the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle, pay to park in white zones and car parks operated by Ljubljana Parking and Markets public company, pay to borrow Bicike(LJ) bikes and for Ljubljana City Library services.

The Urbana card is available from LPP ticket offices, tourist information centers and most of the city’s newspaper kiosks, news-stands and post offices. The card is priced at €2.00 and can store up to €50.00 of credit.

Visitors to Ljubljana who purchase their Urbana card from a Tourist Information Centre and keep the receipt can return the card to the place of purchase when they no longer need it and claim a €2.00 refund.

The BicikeLJ public bicycle system is available across the wider Ljubljana city centre and it enables you to easily move around the city center. Bicycles can be hired practically for free. BicikeLJ bikes are particularly suitable for shorter, up to an hour-long rides as hire is free if you return a hired bicycle to the nearest docking station within an hour and wait for five minutes before hiring a new one. For details and signing up your account please check: http://en.bicikelj.si.

Ljubljana also has a well-organized taxi service, which is not exceedingly expensive. There are fixed spots in the city where taxis are stationed, or they can be ordered by telephone.

And don’t be surprised if you meet Ljubljana’s very own KAVALIR. The Slovene word Kavalir means gentleman in English. Kavalir vehicles provide transport for elderly visitors and anyone having difficulty walking in pedestrian areas inside the ecological zone and on streets with traffic restrictions.

Kavalirs never rest and are available every day in the week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Ride with Kavalir is available free of charge and you can hail them anywhere on the street. Telephone ordering is also an option.
