This beautiful small city is situated on the river Ljubljanica that flows between the city center and the castle hill.
Ljubljana has preserved evidence of a five thousand year history including the remains of the Roman city of Emona and the old city center with its medieval castle, Baroque facades, decorative portals and uneven roofs. Other significant bits of the city mosaic are picturesque bridges across the Ljubljanica River and the vast Tivoli Park, which stretches into the very city center.
The town boasts the most relaxing atmosphere of all European capitals and offers endless cultural events and excellent quality of life. But Ljubljana is unique – small by surface area, but huge in terms of hospitality and quality of life.
In 2016 Ljubljana has become European Green Capital. Through the years city changed for the better and even local quickly forgot how the city center was choked with traffic, how hard it was to get from one side of the river to the other, how much time was spent waiting for the bus and when the riverbanks were a car park rather than a place of pleasant cafes. It’s hard to believe that today’s green capital was so very different less than a decade ago.
Ljubljana is one of the few European capitals blessed with natural high quality drinking water untreated with technological processes straight from the tap.
With public drinking fountains in Ljubljana the drinking water is accessible to all!
